TTS wins pioneering order from Spain 20.06.2007

TTS Liftec Oy has won a significant order from Spain for the supply of six LTH90 translifters. The translifters will be based in Ferrol and Santander for RoRo operation.

The LTH90 translifter has a capacity of 90 tonnes and constitutes an essential component of TTS’ cassette system. The system itself offers benefits critical to the shipping industry including faster loading time, high capacity and reduced maintenance requirements.

The translifters offer advantages over conventional systems, offering driver-friendly maneuverability in cramped spaces, thus increasing RoRo loading efficiency. Their construction is the result of computer aided design and strength calculation.

Safety is also improved, as Urpo Kasurinen, export manager at the company explains: “All device operations are monitored by a computer-based PLC unit, located in the watertight electric switchbox. Continuous monitoring by the PLC unit gives an instant component fault warning and activates the safety functions if necessary.”

“This is an important milestone for TTS Liftec,” says Kasurinen. “This is the first order of its kind from Spain, reflecting the growing success of our cassette system.”

About TTS Liftec
TTS Liftec designs and delivers systems for loading and unloading ships in port, a business area in which TTS is expanding, in line with other TTS activities in mobile terminal systems.
The TTS Liftec portfolio includes systems for container and cargo cassette handling, the majority of which have been so far sold to European ports and harbours. The company also has extensive service and aftersales capabilities.

TTS has addressed the European Union’s initiative to develop ‘motorways of the sea’ by optimising the intermodal transhipment of goods. TTS has played an integral role in the plan since its inception in 1996, when the Improved Port Ship Interface (IPSI) project was conceived as a result of an EU green paper that discussed the relief of the predicted road transportation pressure in the future. IPSI was devised to make the transportation of goods by sea as cost-effective as land-based methods.
